Wake Up: Breaking Boundaries
Our flagship event is back on the calendar! Old acquaintances know what this means, new relations are in for a surprise. One thing is certain: at the Wake Up, you will be shaken up as a financial professional. The theme of this edition: Breaking Boundaries.
Stuck in routine processes, outdated systems or even spreadsheets. Financials within many organizations recognize this. They are in danger of losing touch with what does work, in a world that is changing ever faster. Time to break free. Break free from old routines and ingrained patterns of thinking in order to take a step forward. But how do we break through these boundaries? And do we recognize these boundaries at all, or is working from our safe environment just fine?
Together with our best customers and best partners, we will find out during the Finext Wake Up: Breaking Boundaries.
An edition with a silver lining: at Finext, we have been breaking boundaries for 25 years this year!
Program
This afternoon will feature inspiring keynote speakers, refreshing breakout sessions and active workshops. You will go home with a fresh perspective on your own field and on the organization around you, and with the tools to break through the boundaries you have identified.

What is the Wake Up?
The Finext Wake Up has been our flagship event since 2007. Where many of our other meetings focus on specific themes or technologies, this day is all about the why. Why do you do what you do? And why do we believe in what we are working on? The name Wake Up gives it away: on this day we let ourselves be awakened by inspiring speakers, interactive workshops and personal conversations.

Lex Hoefsloot - Co-founder of Lightyear
Lightyear's story is full of pushing boundaries and breaking patterns. Was this always a success story? What are the lessons learned from 8 years of Lightyear?
Speaking of breaking boundaries, Lightyear's story is full of pushing boundaries and breaking patterns. Was this always a success story? No, the developer of a solar-powered consumer car had to reinvent itself a few years ago and learned a lot from things that didn't go well. Lex takes you through the 8-year-old rollercoaster called Lightyear. Started as a student project and on it grew into a 600-employee company with 200 million in investments raised. After relaunching in 2023, it decided to focus entirely on developing and producing solar panels for cars. What was successful, what are the lessons to be learned from 8 years of Lightyear? What lessons for the drivers, what lessons for the ecosystem?
Steven Klooster - former CFO VanMoof & Travelbird, now CFO Clarity AI
Steven takes you through his "5 lessons from a CFO at VanMoof" through VanMoof's growth years. He talks about challenges he faced, that interpretation he gave to the roles of finance and the lessons he learned and still applies in his current roles (at start-ups).
Having studied at Delft University and later at London Business School, Steven has always had a passion for bringing structure to tech growth companies that have big ambitions. After a period as a consultant at OC&C and investor at SGCE and Warburg Pincus, he has been operator at companies such as Lyst, TravelBird, Bomberbot, VanMoof and now Clarity AI, aiming to grow them from a start-up to a well-established company.
Steven takes you through his "5 lessons from a CFO at VanMoof" through VanMoof's growth years. He talks about challenges he faced, those interpretation of the roles of finance and the lessons he learned and still applies in his current roles (at start-ups). Topics covered include: rigging a finance function, raising investments, creating a climate for (increasingly) data-driven decisions, stepping outside the role of CFO and scalability. A fascinating story about acting in a turbulent organization.
